SUITABILITY
Pilates is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, from those who
have never exercised before to the fittest of athletes. In particular
it can help:
- Chronic back pain sufferers
- Those with osteoporosis wanting to exercise
safely
- Arthritis sufferers
- The elderly
- Sportspeople wanting to strengthen their core
and improve posture
If you are a complete begineer then it is advisable to take 2 or 3 private
one to one sessions in order to familiarise yourself with the basics
and key terms. You can then join one of the weekly group sessions at
your level.
Alternatively, you can try an Introduction to Pilates
class which is held every 6 weeks. This is a one off class, lasting
for 1 1/2 hours and is a good way to discover if Pilates is for you,
before you commit to signing up for the initial sessions.
Please remember that if you are new to exercise or you
are having treatment always check with your doctor or therapist before
joining a pilates group.
OK – SO I’VE BOOKED MY FIRST SESSION –
WHAT DO I WEAR OR BRING WITH ME?
Ideally, you should wear comfortable, close fitting clothes
such as leggings and a t-shirt. We normally work in bare feet or socks,
so trainers are not necessary.
All equipment such as mats are provided – so, just
bring yourself , a small towel and a bottle of water!
It is advisable NOT to exercise if you have been drinking
alchohol, eaten a large meal or are taking painkillers.
